winston - ADOPTED
|
Winston is an adorable little 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier and chihuahua mix who weighs about 13 lbs. Winston is a shy dog and will need a special home to help him gain confidence. He would do best in a home with another confident, social dog, especially one he could play with.
Winston is extremely curious. He is constantly studying the world around him intently (fun fact: he even watches TV with the same intensity!). Winston is house trained and will do most of his business outside, but he will also see a pee pad if needed. When using a pee pad, he squats to pee and has never lifted his leg inside the house. Winston should have access to appropriate chew toys to give him an outlet for his terrier instincts. He loves squeaky stuffies, but they are unlikely to last a full play session in one piece if he has his way. Winston barks some but not excessively at neighborhood noise. He barks a lot when playing or when things are not to his liking. When anxious or disgruntled, he will also make other assorted vocalizations that are ridiculously adorable, even as they tug at your heart strings. Winston enjoys going for daily walks, but he is still nervous about having a harness put on. Once in the harness, he relaxes and is great on leash and does not pull nor mark excessively. Winston is very shy around new people, but he has made a ton of progress! When he first entered foster care, he would not let his foster mom touch him at all, even when coaxed with food or treats. Over time and with a lot of practice and patience, she was able to start petting him, introduce a harness to him, and start picking him up. He likes to be nearby and will settle on the couch a few feet away. He enjoys being gently rubbed on his chest, although he may never be a lap dog or serious cuddler. When meeting new people, he will come up to you if you ignore him and give him space. He even recently took a treat from a new visitor for the first time! Due to circumstance, Winston hasn't had the opportunity to socialize with many dogs yet. He adored his foster sister (and prior foster siblings from another household) and was curious and mostly non-reactive to a more recent, but withdrawn, foster guest. Winston will need a dedicated and patient home that will continue to work with him on socialization. He is easy to have around and he is worth the effort! Winston is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and micro-chipped. If you'd like to meet him, please fill out an adoption application and a volunteer with be in touch. |
