Patience and gentle perseverance are essential to earning sweet Upton’s eventual trust.
Having never known tenderness before, he feels more at ease with fewer people around, and his favorite place to be in his foster home is his doggy bed. In fact, wherever Upton goes, his bed goes too! He loves sitting on his human foster sister’s bed -- in his bed -- while she studies, and he stays in it, snugly and safely, when he’s outdoors, basking in the sun and savoring the fresh air.
Although he may not approach his fosters for affection, he LOVES when they scratch his head and behind his ears, and he could happily accept their scratches for hours. And while he may not eat from his dog bowl in front of them, he does, however, take food and treats extremely gently from their hands.
He doesn’t mind other dogs but he hasn’t yet started playing with toys. He also remains fearful of sudden movements and noises, and currently knows no commands. Although he’s house trained (he will also use pee pads indoors), he’s neither leash nor crate trained.
With the potential to grow into the gentlest, most genial of dogs, Upton should flourish in a tranquil home (older, calm children only), with nurturing adopters who will tenderly bolster his confidence, patiently complete his training and education and lovingly show him how truly awesome life can be.
Upton is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. To meet or adopt Upton, fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you shortly.
