una
Meet Una, a female cattle dog and basenji mix. Una is a 2 years old medium sized dog (about 27 pounds) with a lean and muscular body type. She was abandoned by her previous owner, and was about to be put down at the shelter, when we rescued her in early August. Here are some fun facts we've learned about Una since she was rescued:
Una deserves the best that life has to offer. Fill out an application to meet this sweet girl today. Una is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and micro-chipped.
- Sweet and gentle temperament
- Follows her human around; seeks reassurance and attention
- Settled in quickly in her foster home
- Gets along with other dogs in the household, male and female, big and small
- Reactive with strange dogs encountered outside the home
- Does not like to share treats (all dogs should be monitored when feeding or giving treats)
- Very soft-mouthed when taking treats
- Walks nicely on a leash; had her first walk with 3 other dogs and figured out how to keep her own leash untangled
- She would be perfect for hiking adventures or lounging around the house
- Can be vocal when she wants attention or just wants to tell you how happy she is to see you! She even yodels and “talks” like a basenji!
- Rode calmly in her crate in the car on her “freedom ride” (post-rescue). Has ridden nicely in the car with a harness since (after some initial excitement, she settles down).
- Appears to be house and crate trained; has had zero accidents in her foster home
- Una is very intelligent. Although she does not seem to know basic obedience commands yet, she is very alert and attentive. Understands when you want her to stop doing something (like jumping on furniture or trying to eat another dog’s food).
- Would benefit from obedience training to build up her confidence and give her structure and keep her engaged
