Piper
PIPER
Piper is part of a special story: in early December we rescued 15 dogs and 1 cat from a homeless encampment near Modesto. Their owner was forced to abandon them, and the dogs were captured by animal control and put on the euthanasia list, because no other rescue wanted to take in potentially feral dogs. Not knowing much about the dogs, Rescue the Underdog took a chance and saved all of them, including the cat! As it turns out, all the dogs are super loving, attached to people, great with kids, get along with other dogs and cats. Piper had a special surprise for us - a couple of weeks after rescuing her we found out she was about to have puppies. Piper delivered her puppies in early January 2020 and is now ready for her forever home.
Piper is a people dog. She loves being close to her people and is happiest if she can accompany you on your walk or errands. She loves to cuddle and is really great at giving hugs. She prefers to sleep under the covers of a warm comfy bed now that she knows the comforts of living inside. She is also very playful - she loves to play fetch and shake around her toys. She even does a few trick moves like walking around on her hind legs. And her favorite thing in the world is to chase around a stream of running of water. Get the hose out and see Piper come running and try to catch the water with her mouth. Piper is very easy going and only barks when she hears something outside to warn you about, but quiets down quickly. She is dog door potty trained and working on relieving herself when on walks. She is very smart and food motivated. She would benefit and bond with someone who can continue her training as she likes to please and make her human friends happy. Piper does have some separation anxiety and would do best with someone who is home more often than not or can take her with them a lot (she loves car rides). She would do fine as an only dog or a dog sibling.
Piper gets along with dogs, cats, and kids! She is non-reactive to other small animals. Piper bonds quickly to people and is ready to find her forever home where she can be spoiled and spoil her family right back.
Piper has been spayed and vaccinated. She is micro-chipped and she is available for adoption. If you'd like to meet Piper, please fill out an adoption application and a volunteer will be in touch.
