IKE
Ike came to our rescue with the “Band of 15”, a group of dogs that were living in a tent with a cat in a homeless community. For whatever reason their caregiver was no longer in the picture and they were turned over to the Madera County Shelter. All of the dogs were deemed unsociable and Ike was about to be euthanized. He was saved because our rescue had a spot for him with a foster. He came to us with injuries to his mouth after a difficult capture. He had surgery to remove some of his front teeth damaged during the capture but his mouth troubles continued. He was seen by an animal dentist and it was determined that he had Chronic Ulcerative Paradental Stomatitis (CUPS). He has since had most of his teeth out in efforts to reduce the effects of the ulcers and seems to be doing much better it gives. It gives him a wonky smile! He will need to have good dental health and a softer diet as a result.
He is such a loving dog. He wants nothing more than to spend all day cuddled on a lap. He especially loves getting his belly rubbed and will roll over in your lap to get his tummy scratches. He loves to chase a soft rubber ball and is good at fetch and will release the ball in front of you on command. He is still working on house training and is willing to pee and poop on a pee pad most of the time. He would probably do well with the dog door but does not have one at his current fosters. He loves to cuddle. He loves to sleep in beds but can sleep in the as crate well.
He obviously had been living with 14 other dogs but would now probably do best in a home with either multiple dogs where he was at the bottom of the pack or in a home where he was an only dog. He has been living in a home with cats but the cats are contained in a different area so has not been directly socializing with them but would probably do fine after an adjustment period.
Ike is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro chipped. Please fill out an application and a volunteer will be in touch soon.
