Elsie is an 8 year old Chi mix who was surrendered to a high kill shelter by her previous owner. It's hard to imagine why, because Elsie is a sweet and silly little girl!
Elsie is affectionate, enjoys pets and a good belly rub, and gives the occasional sweet little kiss. She loves to walk and will take a flying leap off the couch if a leash is jingled! She also has a cute pose standing on her hind legs when she wants something that makes her look like a cute little kangaroo.
Speaking of her kangaroo pose, Elsie does try to beg to get her way and would do best with a family that can be gentle but firm about not giving in. She learns very quickly when she is not rewarded for bad behavior, and once ground rules are established, she is an absolute joy to have around the house! Elsie loves food, treats and chews but has never been destructive to any household items.
Despite her black fur, Elsie seeks the sunny spot in the yard as soon as sun shows up, even if she doesn't stay for too long. She seeks heat inside the house too, burrowing under the blanket and twisting it around herself like a cocoon.
Elsie gets along with her doggie housemates and would prefer to live with other dogs. On leash, Elsie gets along with most dogs her size, although she is more nervous around larger dogs. She loves to run and be chased and would love another dog to play with. At the park she runs around with other dogs, and she does zoomies in the yard when her foster chases her.
Elsie is fearful around new people and may even snap if someone reaches for her or does something unusual (comes by jogging or on a skateboard, etc). Her new family will need to be careful about this and ensure she isn't put into situations she isn't ready to handle. She is great about being handled by her foster mom, and seems to have no qualms about having her feet, ears and tail touched by someone she trusts, nor any trouble being bathed.
Elsie is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and micro-chipped. If you’d like to meet Elsie, please fill out an adoption application and a volunteer will be in touch.
