cooper- ADOPTED

Meet Cooper - all legs and ears and a HUGE heart!  He is a 2 year old min pin chihuahua mix and weighs 7 pounds. 

Cooper is part of a special story: in early December we rescued 15 dogs and 1 cat from a homeless encampment near Modesto.  Their owner was forced to abandon them, and the dogs were captured by animal control and put on the euthanasia list, because no other rescue wanted to take in potentially feral dogs.  Not knowing much about the dogs, Rescue the Underdog took a chance and saved all of them, including the cat! As it turns out, all the dogs are super loving, attached to people, great with kids, get along with other dogs and cats.

Just like the rest of the group, Cooper loves everyone he meets! He's gentle with babies and children, loves snuggling his foster brother on car rides, walks well on the leash with direction and gentle correction, and is approximately 80% housebroken. He sleeps in the bed with his foster family and has not had an accident at night. Cooper knows his name, knows to potty outside, and has a big appetite! He’s a quick learner and eager to please.

Cooper is easy-going and has a calm disposition.  He is very affectionate and LOVES to hug and nuzzle. He will hop on your lap, scurry to your face, and throw his long legs around your neck for a big snuggle! He won’t stop hugging until you’ve given him a big squeeze right back. 

Cooper thrives in the company of one or more dogs and shows signs of separation anxiety when away from his people or pack. He is working on his crate anxiety with his foster family but still does not enjoy being alone. He only barks or howls when left in his crate.  We suspect this will get better over time as he builds security in his new life and with positive training methods.

Cooper is a very special, incredibly loving animal. Any family looking for a first pet or adding to their dog family would be lucky to have him.
