Charritos
Charritos means little cowboy in Spanish and this bad boy lives up to his name even at 13 years old! Charittos was an owner surrender to be euthanized but the shelter couldn’t justify having him put down because he is healthy, happy, and still has a strut to his step. He has a great appetite and loves to go outside exploring for the next big adventure. And he has this passion for adventure despite being almost completely blind. That’s right. We have a 13-year-old blind chihuahua in search of a home.
That can sound intimidating at first until you realize that he’s really not more work than an average dog. He just needs an accommodation here and there. He is actually easier to take care of than a guinea pig or rabbit. You get the love and affection of a dog for the effort of a guinea pig. He doesn’t need those long walks, happily stays in his pen for hours, no barking at all and is quite content being let out in a small patio. He is house trained, prefers to do his business outside, but he will use his pee-pad overnight in the pen or if you need to leave him for the day.
And he has the best personality! He absolutely loves kids. Nothing lights him up like having a kid spend time with him. And cats! Yes, Charritos loves cats! Dogs not so much. He can coexist with dogs but doesn’t like them.
And just because Charritos can hardly see doesn’t mean he won’t go wandering off exploring even if he doesn’t have any idea how he will get back. He gets engrossed with what may be out there to explore. The good news that he goes exploring at a slow enough pace that you won’t have to be running after him. You just need to keep an eye on him, so he doesn’t wander too far.
Charritos loves to cuddle and have his belly scratched. He can be quite playful in his own way, he’s young at heart. And he would love to sleep with you at night even though he is crate trained.
Don’t be spooked and not check him out. He may be small but he has a big personality, and you will have a ball with him when you take him into your home and heart. And for those days when you are feeling down and need some inspiration, Charritos is your guy; Despite being totally blind, he has so much zest for life, a can-do attitude, a tiny bit of naughtiness, a healthy dose of playfulness, and so much grit and courage. You just need to get to know him to fall in love with this little guy.
