Meet Charlie! He is a 7 year old, purebred German Shepherd Dog (GSD). Through the heroic efforts of our supporters, Rescue the Underdog was able to save Charlie from being euthanized at a kill shelter in Modesto; he had only one day left. Charlie is now safe with a foster family in San Mateo.

Initially weighing in at over 120 lbs, this big boy is now down to a much healthier 90 lbs thanks to a healthy diet. Charlie is full of love and friendly to everyone - kids, dogs, and cats! He is super mellow, and his foster family even says Charlie personifies the “California chill” spirit!
Charlie is in the process of learning basic commands (being super food motivated helps!). He is already house trained. Here are a few things his foster mom has to say about this gentleman: “I get lots of compliments on how beautiful he is. He gets a lot of attention when we go for walks. And he’s so calm when other dogs walk by him, or even barking at him. He doesn’t bark back. He’s such a good boy. I feel like Charlie’s ideal forever home would be either a chill family or a retired couple. Charlie enjoys the leisurely pace of life, whether it’s a neighborhood walk, or hanging out in the backyard, chewing his bone and enjoying the wildlife around him.” Charlie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
