Carol shouldn't be around and available for adoption, but somehow she has overcome the odds and survived.  The challenges she has faced in life would normally be a death sentence and most dogs with similar barriers don't get out of the shelter alive.

Carol had the misfortune of belonging to someone who dumped her in a field near a Foster Farms factory.  We believe she had to survive on her own for some time.  She was eventually trapped with 9 other dogs in the same field and brought to the Merced County Animal shelter.  None of the dogs were adoptable because they were terrified of people.

Rescue the Under Dog found her at the shelter and decided she deserved the chance to find out that not all people treat dogs as badly as her former owner did.  So we rescued her and all 9 other dogs found in the field with her.

When we got her out of the shelter, she was so scared she pee'd herself.  But what was remarkable about her was that despite being absolutely terrified, she did not try to bite the person handling her.

Carol moved into a foster home and once she was seen by a vet, we discovered that she had broken her leg in the past and it had healed wrong and she had been in pain since then.  Sadly, her leg could not be saved and it had to be amputated.

It's taken Carol a long time to feel safe and loved, but this sweet, gentle girl is now very happy living with people.  She still hesitates around new people but with some yummy treats, that’s a problem easily solved!

She is now leash trained and even now goes to the beach with her foster parents and is IN LOVE!

She loves playing with and removing the stuffing from squeaky toys, running round the backyard, basking in the sun and taking restorative naps

Carol also has benefited from having a dog buddy around to help teach her the ropes and we think she will thrive if her forever home with a dog buddy.

Carol is a girl who has the sweetest disposition and will warm your heart  unlike any other dog you meet. It is impossible to not be drawn to her.  Are you the one who can love and cherish her for the rest of her life?
