Still getting familiar with his foster home, full-coated and fluffy Alvin is absolutely adorable. As sweet natured as his sweet, somewhat impish under bite, he’s quiet and calm, loves cuddling with his foster mom and following her like a devoted doggy shadow. Showing flashes of playfulness after eating or walking, he may not like toys that much, but he occasionally likes playing with a ball. His favorite activity, by far, is taking walks! Smiling excitedly whenever he sees his leash, he walks very well (he does, however, like to sniff around along the way), is comfortable meeting the older children he passes, gets along easily with dogs his own size and is shier around large ones. He also enjoys going for rides in the car, doesn’t mind being bathed, and especially enjoys feasting on such high value treats as meat, cheese and chicken jerky for dogs. Currently, he knows “come” and “sit”, seldom barks, prefers sleeping in a doggy bed to a crate at night, dislikes having his hair brushed, and although he’s not fond of being left alone, he handles it deftly with no signs of anxiety. Since cataracts in both eyes have limited his vision (he requires eye drops twice a day), he’s best approached slowly before petting him, and while he successfully navigates his way around the house without issue, he may bump into things from time to time -- especially at night. Still nervous when his foster mom administers his eye drops, Alvin is slowly improving with the help of treats, praise and the fact that she times his drops to coincide with bringing out his leash before a walk. Now all amiable Alvin needs is a loving home with adopters eager to earn his trust, ensure his environment is safe, persevere patiently with his eye drops and enjoy him fur-ever. Alvin is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. To meet or adopt Alvin, fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you shortly. |
